Here is an antique ji-nashi that I have with me for quite some years but realising that I don’t play it, I prefer it being loved and blown !
Dating from Late Edo or Meiji era (regarding its patina, characteristics and shape of inlay), this ji-nashi shakuhachi has a very nice pure and sweet tone and is well tuned (tempered).
It is made from a thin piece of bamboo thus the embouchure is pretty tight but once you get used to it, it has a good playability up to dai kan. The brown patina is beautiful; It has some tanning marks of former bindings)
Perfect shakuhachi for “Temple repertoire” (Myoan, Itchoken, Kimpu ryu…) and meditative practice.
