I made this Ji-ari shakuhachi with a piece of Kyushu Madake bamboo with a strong caracter (root design, natural stains) of a slight flat oval section.
Very pleasant in hands, it has a sweet and warm tone even in higher registers which is quite difficult to find in this size where brightness is the common tone.
Easy response and playability particularly suitable for “uchi buki” players (blowing more inside the utaguchi).
